Meet Dr. Kathy J. Brown
Dr. Kathy J. Brown is a former K-12 art teacher, current practicing artist, life-long history buff, and teacher educator. As a scholar she’s published, taught and conducted conference presentations on the topics of race and education, community arts, intersectionality, antiracist art pedagogy, Afrofuturism, cultural epistemologies /visualities and place-based learning. As an artist, she is currently working with fibers and was honored as a 2023 Amon Carter Museum Community Artist. Dr. Brown, a Detroit native, received her Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction in Art Education (Urban Education & Social Justice) and a Graduate Certificate in Museum Education from the University of Houston. She is currently an Endowed Assistant Professor and Graduate Director of Art Education at the University of Arkansas.
Focusing on place-based learning and unpacking the multiple gazes of stunning Mudéjar Architecture, she is elated to facilitate conversation in the historic city of Segovia.

Tapas is a both a type of cuisine and a cultural practice. Delicious savory bites, usually on bread or individual servings, pair with local wine for an evening treat on the way home from the work day. Visit with friends and family in the neighborhood, then move on to the next tapas bar to meet up with other friends and enjoy new tasty treats.

This year's program has pared down the prepaid costs, so each person will pay for tickets to sites and activities as we go. Lunch, dinner and snacks are not included. We will enjoy eating together informally each day as we build new friendships.
Flights are not included beginning in 2025 to enable our national travelers to arrange the best fares, preferred seats, and schedule at their convenience.
Most of our travelers will depart the U.S. on July 9 and arrive in Madrid on July 10. Our first scheduled activity will be a welcome creativity session at the hotel in the evening on July 10th. Then we'll get to know each other better over dinner in a local restaurant.
